The department of biology at the college of science has recently initiated a voluntary campaign to identify the harms of the excessive use of antibiotics and their health effects on human beings as well as to introduce the latest international studies and developments in this regard.

This campaign started on the occasion of the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) aimed to increase awareness of global antimicrobial resistance and to encourage best practices among the general public, health workers and policy makers to avoid the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections. The participants stressed the need for reducing the current phenomenon of using drugs without medical consultation which led to the emergence of antibiotic-resistant microbial strains due to their frequent use and lack of awareness of their consequent health risks. This voluntary work was administrated by Prof. Dr. May Taleb and Assist. Prof. Dr. Nagam Shaker with a number of postgraduate students who supplied some health awareness posters.
